Back to school is in full swing and that means packing those lunches and snacks again.
And all the moms said, yay, sarcastically. I think this was one of the things I dreaded most about school starting up again. Finding things that my daughter wanted to eat without feeling like she was so different was not fun and sometimes challenging. This is why I want to share what I've learned with you. Here are a few tricks to help you be successful:
1. Include your kids in selecting recipes and meal choices. I know, this sounds simple but it's so important. Let them look for ideas online with you. Take them shopping and give them 2 choices (this or that keeps it simple)- and both need to be healthy ones you approve of.
2. Educate them on why you're making different choices. You can make it age appropriate and keep it simple, but if they understand WHAT they're putting in their bodies and WHY it matters, they will be more likely to WANT the healthier food.
3. Include them in meal prep and making/assembling their lunches. Trust me, they will be less likely to throw it away or trade it if they've put in the work. There will hopefully be some appreciation for the effort as well. (Gee mom, this takes more time than I thought.)
